Coming to a campus near you: Empowering Students to Negotiate Salaries

With 42 active volunteers and numbers growing, The WVWMF Pay Equity group held a full group meeting on February 27 to report on first quarter plans.  One notable accomplishment is that group volunteers are holding salary negotiation trainings at colleges across the state.

When young women learn more about fair salaries and negotiation, they can help address wage gaps that cost women and average of $800,000 in lifetime earnings.

The Association of American University Women’s college workshop is based on the latest research and offer best practices to negotiate salaries and benefits. The first series of pilots are planned for WVU Morgantown, Marshall University, WVU Parkersburg, WVU Potomac State and WVU Tech. Plans are underway for second series of trainings at additional locations.

Learning outcomes, key lessons learned success stories will be shared later this year. If you have questions or are a college student who would like to attend a workshop, please contact Jessie Barclay at jessie.barclay@mail.wvu.edu or Priscila Santos at priscila.santos@mail.wvu.edu.
